Woodmore senior athlete Samantha Michaelis signed her National Letter of Intent to play collegiate softball last week. She signed to play with Division II Belmont Abbey, in Belmont, North Carolina a member of Conference Carolinas.
Some of Samantha’s high school accomplishments include: • Suburban Lakes League (SLL) softball selection – as a Sophomore and Junior • She already holds several school records including:
• 7 shutouts in one season • No hitters (complete games with no hits) – 2 in one season • First and only perfect game in WHS history (no one on base) • Team MVP in 2007 as a sophomore • Team Golden Circle award as a Junior • Has lettered all three years as a freshman, sophomore and junior, ans is currently in her fourth varsity season • As a junior had a no-hitter and perfect game in back to back days • Threw a no-hitter the first game of the year this year
Outside of high school softball: -Selected to represent the USA at Cup 2008 in the Netherlands, competing against the Dutch teams, and teams from Russia, Italy and Germany.
- Queen of Diamonds North Showcase in 2008 at Kent State University
- Queen of Diamonds South Showcase in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 2007 and 2008, receiving 2 game MVP’s in 2007.
- during the summers she has played travel ball, the past 3 years with SGS Magic based in Toledo. This included playing in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and participating in 3 World Series, 2 near Charlotte, North Carolina and 1 in Columbus, Ohio. - played in fall of 2008 for Ohio Heat in Dayton, competing against DIII schools
Outside of softball, Michaelis was on Woodmore’s golf team and basketball team 4 years each, is a member of National Honor Society and the yearbook staff. Michaelis will be studying pre-med at Belmont Abbey.
