Wednesday morning, Woodmore state discus champion Erin Pendleton signed a letter of intent with the University of Michigan.
Last year’s Division III championship was the fifth year in a row a Pendleton won the state discus. Her sister, Emily, a four-time state discus champion at Woodmore, is already a Wolverine track and field star attending Michigan on a full scholarship, and in 2008, she won a Big Ten championship.
Their father, Mike Pendleton, said Erin chose Michigan because of its athletic facilities. Erin holds the state meet discus record, breaking her sister’s record last spring.
Erin’s other achievements include —
• 11th place @ Jr World meet in Poland, 2008 high school All American Discus
• 2008 4th place finish shot put — Ohio High School State Meet
• 2007 2nd place finish discus – Ohio High School State Meet
• 2006 4th place finish discus – Ohio High School State Meet
• 2007 USA World Youth Team Discus (Czech Republic)
• currently ranked in the nation for 2009 discus
And those are just the highlights.
In 2007, Erin finished second at Ohio high school State meet behind her sister Emily, who was first. It was the only time siblings have finished 1 -2 in a state track event.
Erin is coached by her father Mike, a former prep track star himself and an assistant coach at Woodmore, and Erin and Emily have two more sisters following behind them — Carly and Meghan.
