Cardinal Stritch Catholic senior golfer Emily Turski won the Ironwood girls Division II sectional tournament, and she and her team advanced to the district tournament.

Turski was the individual winner, shooting a 41-43-84 to defeat Wauseon sophomore Anna Marshall, who shot 47-41-88.

The Stritch team won a sectional championship, shooting a 388 to outpace second place Otsego (428). Oak Harbor was third, shooting a 458, to also advance to district action.

For Stritch, junior Victoria Pinciotti shot 45-46-91, junior Maddy Niehaus shot 54-53-107, junior Macy McGrady shot 56-55-111, and sophomore Sydney Tucker shot 50-56-106. The Cardinals are coached by Jeffrey Gajdostik.

For Oak Harbor, senior Cydney St. Clair shot 63-59-122, sophomore Dana Franck shot 51-57-108, junior Brooke Tice shot 61-61-122, sophomore Tori Schiets shot 58-64-122, and freshman Katelyn Tack shot 56-50-106. The Rockets are coached by Marnie Hallett-Szymanski.

Eastwood finished fourth, one spot out of the running to advance, shooting a 466. The Eagles are coached by John Cavendish. Senior Hannah Cook shot 54-61-115, junior Abigail Sheldrick shot 52-64-116, senior Samantha Whritenour shot 64-60-124, junior Paige Himburg shot 66-68-134, and sophomore Jenne Venier shot 49-62-111.

Rossford (484) was fifth, followed by Genoa (532), and other golfers participating were from Ontario, Archbold, Tinora, Pettisville, Montpelier, North Central, Convoy Crestview, and Wauseon.

Junior Rikki Shoemaker led Genoa, shooting 45-58-103, while senior Savannah Compton shot 53-63-116.

Stritch second in TAAC
Stritch boys’ golf finished second in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference tournament, totaling 346 to place behind first place champion Ottawa Hills (297). Gibsonburg (352) was third and Northwood (415) fifth.

Stritch golfer Brandon Payeff is a first team All-TAAC golfer, shooting 37-39-76 at the championship meet at Stone Ridge Golf Course in Bowling Green and finishing with 146½ points among all league matches. Gibsonburg golfer Cyrus Foos is also first team, shooting 37-41-78 at the championship and finishing with 128 points.

Second team selections are Stritch golfers Sam Harrison (40-43-83) and Jude Neary (45-44-89) and Gibsonburg golfer Adam Neeb (43-44-87).

Other Stritch scores at the league championship were Kyle Zapatka (62-48-110), Paul Schultz (53-50-103, and Alex Pocse (49-49-98).

Other Gibsonburg scores were Alex Gibson (53-49-102), John Gibson (53-49-102), Gabe Hickman (46-49-95), and Donovan Mominee (41-51-92).

Northwood’s leading scores were Dustin Sigurdson (48-48-96), Ryan Schumaker (51-55-106), Dustin Sigurdson (52-58-110), Dylan Makowski (50-56-106), and Shelby Smith (54-53-107).
