Oregon volleyball star to become Cadet at The Citadel
Toledo Christian senior Carly Cannon, an Oregon resident, will play college volleyball next fall at The Citadel.
Cannon is a 5-9 libero/defensive specialist. In high school, she participated in basketball (two seasons), track and field (one season) and volleyball (four seasons). volleyball, Cannon's teams were Toledo Area Athletic Conference runners-up (2010-11), district runners-up (2011) and TAAC champions (2012).
This success earned the two-time volleyball captain a coaches’ award three times (2010-12), TAAC second team twice (2011-12) and she garnered TAAC and district all-academic accolades (2012).
After her senior year at TC, Cannon was seventh in the program all-time in serving (91 percent), third in aces (20 percent), fifth in passing (95 percent), fifth in digs (75 percent), and ninth in setting (92 percent). She started her prep playing career at Cardinal Stritch Catholic before transferring to TC her junior year. In the offseason, she plays for Glass City Volleyball, directed by Dana Hooper.
The Genoa High School Athletic Department will hold its annual Tom Pickerel Comet Open fundraiser on June 8 at Chippewa Golf Course. Cost is $65 per person, which includes golf and lunch. The 17th Annual Lake Flyer Open four-man golf scramble will be June 1 at Chippewa Golf Course with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (golfers must arrive by 7 a.m.). The Relay for Life benefitting the American Cancer Society will be at Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School on June 7-8 A golf fundraiser benefitting the Relay for Life in Oregon will be at Heather Downs Country Club on June 29 with registration at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Fee is $300 per foursome, which includes steak lunch. The Oregon-Northwood Rotary Club will hold its annual golf invitational fundraiser June 21 at Chippewa Golf Course with registration at 11:30, lunch at noon, and shotgun start at 1 p.m. The golf outing is the main fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Oregon/Northwood and our members organize the event to raise funds to send the Oregon, Northwood and now Kateri 5th grade students on a mission to Challenger Learning Center in Oregon. Lake boys’ basketball will hold an open skills camp for grades 1-8 June 3-5 from 6-8 p.m. Head varsity coach Ryan Bowen and his staff will conduct the camp, held at the Lake Flyer Field House.
