A gala birthday party was held Jan. 18 at The Elizabeth Scott Community in Maumeen in celebration of five residents who have reached the century mark.
The five 100-year-olds and their birthdays are Elizabeth “Betty” Rose (April 8, 1910); Heloise Warrington (Nov. 29,

Betty Rose, formerly of Oregon, was among five residents at The Elizabeth Scott Community honored for being 100 years old.

1910); Glenford Rupp (May 24, 1911); Doris Mohr (September 20, 1911); and Lorina Arps (Dec. 28, 1911). “It has to be a record,” says Matt Bucher, director of marketing for Elizabeth Scott, an independent living, assisted living and long-term care facility. “Having one or two at a facility like ours is something, but five is incredible.” Featured performer for the party was Ragtime Rick Graffing, a local entertainer who is popular with Elizabeth Scott residents, In addition, Elizabeth Scott staff members developed a photo board for each of the five honored 100-year-olds.
Betty Rose and her husband, Al, lived in Oregon, and were both residents at Elizabeth Scott. Al passed away last year at the age of 100. Betty served as a homemaker and, together, she and Al raised five children. Throughout her life, she enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid knitter.
Grace “Heloise” Warrington, the oldest of eight children, was born in West Millgrove, Ohio, the oldest of eight children.
Glenford Rupp, who was born in Elmira, Ohio, shared her secret for longevity. “A doctor once told me that drinking a glass of Coca Cola a day will make you live to be 100 … so I did, and here I am,” she said,
Doris Mohr was born in Burlington, Ohio, said, “My secret to reaching age 100 is that I always lived by the Golden Rule.”
Lorina Arps was born in Hamler, Ohio, the second youngest of nine children. What is Arps secret to reaching age 100? “Good home cooking, and I kept myself busy,” she says.
