Holiday Bazaar & Bake Sale
A Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale will be held at the Oregon Senior Center, 5760 Bayshore Rd. (corner of Bayshore and Stadium in Oregon), Friday, Dec. 2, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Holiday Card Party
Friends of Otterbein Portage Valley will hold a Holiday Card Party Dec. 1 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the Otterbein Portage Valley auditorium.

The party will include card, dominoes, board games and more.  Admission $6 at the door. Everyone is welcome.

Tax-Aide volunteers wanted
Help AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provide free income tax assistance to older moderate- and low-income taxpayers Feb. 1 through April 15 at community sites. Training will be provided.

Sr. center plans trip
The East Toledo Senior Activities Center, with the help of Diamond Tours, will be hosting a bus trip to Savannah, Ga., Jekyll Island and Beaufort, S.C. May 20 to 26, 2012.

The cost is $600, based on double occupancy. The cost includes motorcoach transportation, six nights lodging including four consecutive nights in the Savannah area; 10 meals; a tour of Jekyll and St. Simon’s Island and a tour of Beaufort and Parris Island.

Space is limited. A deposit of $75 is required by Jan. 24. No payments will be taken before Jan. 1. The balance will be due by March 14.

Scam alert
The Ohio Department of Aging has been made aware of a potential scam in which an individual called a consumer and claimed to represent the State of Ohio and the Ohio's Best Rx program.

The caller falsely said the state was issuing or re-issuing Ohio's Best Rx cards and that she needed information, such as bank account number or Social Security number, to verify the consumer’s identity.

Since the Golden Buckeye program is affiliated with the Ohio’s Best Rx program, the Ohio Department of Aging is notifying consumers to be on the lookout for this scam and avoid falling victim.

No representative of the Golden Buckeye or Ohio's Best Rx programs will contact cardholders for personal or financial information. If you receive such a call, do not provide any information to the caller and end the call immediately.

If you received a call and provided personal information, please contact local law enforcement as soon as possible to report a potential scam. For assistance and more information about consumer scams, contact the Attorney General’s Office Help Center at 1-800-282-0515.

Funding sought
If two proposals to the Ohio Housing Finance Agency for tax credits are approved, there will be a new senior housing complex in Fremont and one in Perrysburg.

The proposal to build a $9 million complex in Fremont and an $11 million one in Perrysburg recently received approval from the WSOS Board of Directors.

The Fremont complex will consist of 59 units and will be built on property on South Buchanan Street. It will be developed in partnership with Herman-Kittle Properties and will be rented to area residents 55 years of age and over at below market rates.

In Perrysburg, the 69-unit complex will be built near the Levis Commons area and also will be rented to those 55 years of age and over at below market rates. Also, potential renters will have to be at about 50-60 percent of Wood County’s median income.

The lower rents are possible since the complexes will be built using tax credits.
