It was a heated competition Friday, June 24 as teams from six Wood County senior centers met at the Northeast Area Center in Walbridge for a double elimination Wii Bowling Tournament.
The teams, which consisted of participants ranging from 60 to 94 years of age, engaged in competitive but friendly rivalry.
This event has taken place for the past three years and the participants continue to enjoy meeting new people, reuniting with friends from around the county, and they especially like celebrating their similarities, as they all have a true passion for bowling, according to Danielle Brogley, Director of Programs for the Wood County Committee on Aging.
Two large-screen TVs made it easy for the participants to play several games and also participate as audience members and cheer on their friends.
Each team had five participants who played two frames per game. The team concept produced event scores ranging from 135 to 224.
While each site was asked to form one team, the Pemberville Area Senior Center, Northeast Area Senior Center, and North Baltimore Area Senior Center actually had two teams each. Also, represented were the Wayne Area Senior Center, the Wood County Senior Center and the Perrysburg Area Senior Center.
The winners for the second year in a row were the North Baltimore Misfits, comprised of members Dave Kline, Nina Sterling, Richard Wilson and Pat Myers. Throughout the tournament, the Misfits never lost a game. Runners up were the Perrysburg Wee Wonders.
The tournament was sponsored by Senior Helpers, a Waterville-based home health care business, which provided team T-shirts and a trophy.
