Volunteers sought to deliver meals to homebound seniors The Northeast Area Senior Center, located at 705 North Main St., Walbridge, is in need of volunteers to deliver meals in the local Walbridge area.
Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license, up-to-date insurance, a vehicle and a kind heart. Meals are delivered between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., however once a driver becomes familiar with the route, it should take about 45 minutes to complete.
“This is an excellent activity for parents with children at home for the summer or individuals looking for an activity to give back to their community,” according to Jackie Metz, Volunteer Coordinator / Administrative Assistant at the Wood County Committee on Aging.
Metz added that the program also serves as a “gatekeeper” activity to keep an eye on the elderly in the community who are homebound.

Providing care with confidence More and more people are caring for their sick, frail or debilitated loved ones at home. Because many feel ill-prepared to meet the challenges of providing hands-on care, Hospice of Northwest Ohio is offering a free, two-hour workshop to teach family caregivers the basics.
The program, being offered twice during August at Mercy St. Charles Hospital, 2600 Navarre Ave., Oregon, is open to anyone in the community. Dates include Aug. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Through discussion and interactive demonstrations conducted by a nurse educator from Hospice of Northwest Ohio, family caregivers will learn tips to enhance the way they provide care needs including bathing, oral care, positioning, back rubs, transfer techniques, making an occupied bed, feeding, incontinence care, foot care and more.
To allow active participation, class size is limited to six and pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 419-931-3408.
