“Celebrity chefs” cook up a successful fundraiser for LSP

On Thursday, May 12, the Little Sisters of the Poor hosted their Second Annual Celebrity Chefs at the Pinnacle event to raise support for the Sacred Heart Home for the Elderly.

Thirteen priests from the Diocese of Toledo acted as “Celebrity Chefs” for the evening, including Msgr. Michael Billian, Msgr. Marvin Borger, Msgr. Dennis Metzger, Msgr. William Kubacki, Msgr. Charles Singler, Rev. Ron Olszewski OSF, Rev. Joseph Weigman, Rev. Robert Wilhelm, Rev. Dan Zak, Rev. Eric Schild, Rev. Kent Kaufman, Rev. Dave Cirata and Rev. Chuck Denny.

Three hundred attendees mingled with the priests and Little Sisters at the large Chef Bar that featured a wide array of menu items – everything from caprese salad, chicken with a sundried-tomato garlic sauce, carved beef and pork tenderloins encrusted with peppercorn rosemary.  The St. Johns Jesuit Jazz Band provided musical entertainment for the evening.

Heart Home for the Elderly.

Among the live auction prizes were Celebrity Chef dinners. Msgr. Metzger, Msgr. Billian and the culinary partnership of Rev. Zak and Rev. Wilhelm each volunteered to cook a special dinner for 10 people to be served at a future date at the Pinnacle.

Mark Thees, owner of the Pinnacle, served as auctioneer for the event. The guests also had the opportunity to bid on a room full of silent auction items, as well as many surprise mystery boxes gift-wrapped for the occasion.

Funds raised will be used to help the Little Sisters continue their mission of caring for the elderly poor. Currently the Sisters care for 73 full-time residents in three different levels of care – independent living apartments, assisted living and fully skilled nursing care. In addition, the Sacred Heart Home offers a Senior Center that daily serves 20 to 25 local senior citizens with recreational activities, meals and a family spirit of loving care.
