Intergenerational Fairy Tale Ball The Wood County Committee on Aging, Inc. is extending an invitation to the community to participate in a spellbound fairy tale experience.
Grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, friends and children ages 3 to 9 years of age are invited to take part in numerous interactive programs focused around an enchanted evening of castles, princesses and princes Monday, June 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wood County Senior Center, 305 N. Main St. Bowling Green.
The event will showcase special craft projects designed around the theme, as well as fairy tale bingo, trivia and a special sing-a-long of Disney favorites.
A dinner fit for princes and princesses been planned. It will include such favorites as pizza sponsored by Little Caesars, vegetable platters, fruit, chips and a dessert bar sponsored by Heritage Corner Health Care Campus.
Attendees can create a memento of the event by having their pictures taken with the castle backdrop and then enjoy the rest of the evening dancing on the open dance floor. 50+ Sports Classic The 2011 50+ Sports Classic will be held June 11 at St. Francis de Sales High School, 2323 W. Bancroft St.
The Olympic event for participants 50 and older will include a variety of activities, including track and field, swimming, tennis and table tennis, bowling, softball, three-on-three basketball, horseshoes and golf. Participants can sign up for as many sports as they wish. Medals will be awarded to winners in their events.
Competitions are divided among age groups so individuals may compete against their peers. Brackets range in age from 50-54 to 90 and older.

Transportation available Lucas County seniors who need help getting to the doctor can call Black & White Transportation at 419-464-0230 to receive up to two trips to medical appointments a month. The service is available to all residents of Lucas County who are at least 60 years of age and need transportation for medical or dental appointments.
There are no fees associated with this transportation program. No payments should be made to the driver, however, users will be periodically notified of the value of the transportation they receive and will be given the opportunity to make a voluntary contribution if they can and desire to do so.

New partnership formed Otterbein Portage Valley has announced a new partnership with the Wood County Hospital and new Medical Director Dr. Cheri Diller, effective May 2.
In association with the Wood County Hospital, Dr. Diller will greatly expand the family practice clinic hours and availability for not only Otterbein Portage Valley’s Senior Lifestyle Campus but the greater community as well. “Otterbein Portage Valley already offers a family practice clinic on-site but we have been seeking to improve and better utilize these facilities,” said Tom Keith, Otterbein executive director.
“This will increase our services in eastern Wood County and allow us to reach into and continue caring for those outside of Bowling Green,” said George Massar, vice president of operations at Wood County Hospital, “ Pemberville, Woodville, Luckey, Stony Ridge, Rossford, Walbridge, Elmore, Bradner, Gibsonburg and other towns in the area will have Dr. Diller as an added resource close to home.”
Dr. Diller, a family practice physician who is well versed in long-term care, acute care and hospice, will also oversee the coordination of medical care in Otterbein Portage Valley’s skilled nursing and assisted living areas.
Originally from Pandora, she lives in Pemberville and has raised her children, Kent, Emily and Ellie in the Eastwood School District.
Recently, Dr. Diller underwent knee replacement surgery and chose Otterbein Portage Valley for in-patient rehabilitation care.

Senior Book Discussions The Oregon Branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library hosts one-hour monthly Senior Book Discussions.
Seniors are invited to join the group, which meets the first Friday of most months. No registration is required.
The group will meet June 3 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. to discuss Sara Gruen’s “Water for Elephants.” Copies of the book can be obtained from the clerks at the circulation desk at the library, located at 3340 Dustin Rd.

Housekeeping help The East Toledo Senior Activities Center is taking names of senior citizens who would like to sign up for housekeeping services.
Assistance is available with light housekeeping tasks, including dusting, vacuuming, dishes, laundry, etc. The program is open to Oregon and East Toledo residents 60 and older.

Grand Prix Monte Carlo The James “Wes” Oregon Senior center will present a Grand Prix Monte Carlo on the Bay May 27 from 1 to 8 p.m. The center is located at Stadium and Bayshore roads, Oregon.
The event will include slots, blackjack, Big Six, roulette, 50/50 and “Beat the Dealer.” The car show will run from 4 to 8 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Cruisin’ Zeake.

Cape Cod trip planned The East Toledo Senior Activities Center, in conjunction with Diamond Tours, will host a trip to Cape Cod and Plymouth, Mass. Sept. 4 to 10.
The cost is $599 per person, based on double occupancy. The price includes transportation via luxury motorcoach, six nights of lodging including four consecutive nights in the Cape Cod area, 10 meals, a visit to Martha’s Vineyard, exploration of the historic seaside towns of Hyannis and Sandwich, a visit to the JFK Museum and more.

West End County Picnic The Elmore Golden Oldies & Genoa Senior Centers, with Crosser’s Funeral Homes and Otterbein Portage Valley, invite all veterans and senior citizens to the West End County Picnic in the Park Tuesday, June 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Well Park in Genoa.
The picnic will include a BBQ chicken lunch with sides and strawberry shortcake for a donation of $5. Entertainment will be provided by Ragtime Rick, with a special appearance by Jim Tichy.
Proceeds raised from the event will be donated to Honor Flight Northwest Ohio. Tickets must be purchased by June 9. Tickets are available at the Elmore Senior Center (419-862-3874) and Genoa Senior Center (419-855-4491). Only 100 tickets will be sold.
Mobile Benefit Bank A Mobile Benefit Bank presented by Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc., (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), along with the Ohio Benefit Bank will visit the Northeast Senior Center, 705 N. Main St., Walbridge, Thursday, June 2 at 12:30 p.m.
The project works to connect low-income people and other underserved populations with government benefits programs for which they may be eligible. Screening for these benefits will be available at the program.
