Riverview celebration celebrates grandparents
It was perfect weather for a special day celebrating very special people.

Riverview HealthCare Campus honored grandparents Sept. 7 in a daylong, family fun-filled event.

The day kicked off with 20 antique tractors owned by local farmers rolling in and parking on the front lawn. The farmers then headed inside the building to enjoy a pancake and sausage breakfast.
Quilters from the Port Clinton and Oak Harbor quilt guilds displayed more than 30 handcrafted quilts and wall hangings and worked on a featherweight quilt in the front lobby of the campus. Creative Memories consultant Paula Norwine and other scrapbookers created pages of photographic memories and sheriff’s deputies and Ottawa County Sheriff Bob Bratton himself fingerprinted children for safety. They also handed out bracelets and coloring books and discussed safety with children.

A decorated bike parade wound around the quarter-mile walking track behind Riverview, while a fishing derby attracted anglers of all ages.

A highlight of the event was a visit from WTOL-TV 11’s Dave Carlson who told viewers of “Your Morning Saturday” about the event. Carlson spoke with several entrants from the Kiddie Tractor Pull that was coordinated by Mark Starkey and Oak Harbor High Schools FFA.

“The goal of the day was to see the smiles of the grandparents there participating in the events with their grandchildren,” said Riverview Administrator Kendra German.
