Year.
The first to be honored was Marge Dohms, who was recognized as a club founder and for her many years of enthusiastic support for the club’s endeavors, including the annual festival. Dohms was also instrumental in establishing scholarships for both Genoa and Clay high schools.
“We thought that by honoring our outstanding citizens we would also bring honor into the community that we are all so proud of,” said Randy Kania, club president.
Dohms was followed last year by Stanley Joehlin, who had a successful engineering career with Glasstech Inc., and who in retirement, has become an active volunteer throughout the region.
This year the club has named George Ackerman as the 2010 Outstanding Citizen of the Year. “George is one of those people who do good things without expecting recognition,” Kania said. “He is a successful businessman who has operated Ackerman Equipment in our town for years and has been a faithful supporter of Curtice Kidz.
“Most notably, he generously sponsored the American flags that grace our downtown streets, and has made available the sports fields on his property to various youth teams for many years,” Kania said.
Recipients are chosen for their personal accomplishments in business, education and community involvement but above all are recognized as accomplished human beings.
“Their examples are what we want to share with our residents, especially our young people who we want to achieve the most that they can,” Kania said.
Ackerman will be recognized at opening ceremonies of Curtice Kidz Days June 13.
