old photographs depicting county life in past generations from their private family collections.
“Photo Day,” held April 8 at the Ottawa County Historical Museum, was sponsored jointly by the museum and the Ottawa County Historical Society.
The collected photographs date back as far as the turn of the 19th century and portray a range of activities, families and commerce that once existed in Ottawa County. The photos will be used by the Historical Society’s Oral History Project, “Ottawa County: On Page & Stage,” to be published in the next edition of oral histories. In addition, they will become part of the Historical Museum’s permanent collection of photographs.
Photographs were contributed by Richard Bergman, Carol Quisno Brown, Carolyn Carr and mother, Mable Brawn, Peggy Debien, Joe Gall, Casey Lambert, Kathy Leonard, Joan Hickman, Bernita Hiles, Sharon Sweeney, Jeanne Huskey, and Annette Textor of Curtice whose family owned a century farm dating back to 1863.
A staff of volunteer workers from OCHM and OCHS was on hand to process and scan the photos. Individuals who wish to submit photographs may contact Peggy Debien, OCH Museum curator at 419-732-1039 or Nancy Dunham, OC Historical Society trustee at 419-797-2244 for more information.
