April 8.

Betty was born April 8, 1919 in Findlay, Ohio, the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth (Kern) Dye. She graduated in 1928 from Findlay High School and attended the Bowling Green State Normal College.

She and her husband Alfred A. Rose – who celebrated his 100th birthday Jan. 1 – were married June 7, 1931. They celebrated their 78th year of marriage last year.

Betty was a homemaker, and enjoyed canning the fruit that grew on their property on Worden Road in Oregon. She has also made beautiful pine needle baskets, which she learned to make during their retirement travels.

She always enjoyed reading, and still does. She also continues to enjoy doing needlework.

Her children recall the family “heirloom” Christmas cookie recipe that had been handed down through the Rose family. The tradition continues with many of the children and grandchildren.

Betty was the 4-H leader for the Coy Omega 4-H Club. In 2008, she was chosen Lucas County “My Fair Lady Queen.”

Betty and Alfred are the parents of five children, Roger (Sheila), of St. Louis, Mo.; John (Verna), of Waterville; Sharon, of Monroe, Mich.; David (Cindy), of Findlay; and Marty (Kathy), of Cincinnati. They have 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandchild.

Betty and Alfred currently live in the Elizabeth Scott Community Memorial Care Center, Level III, on Albon Road in Maumee.

A birthday dinner will be held with the family on April 10.
