Moroccan delegation visits Eastwood High School

Eastwood welcomed a delegation from the Moroccan Center for Civic Education this winter.

Five delegates came to the school to see how American's were taught and also how they turned learning into experience.

The Moroccan Center for Civic Education was founded in 2003. Its main focus is to educate and train students for real-world situations.

One delegate stated that it was not teaching the students that was the problem. It was implementing what they were taught into real-world situations.

The Moroccan delegates observed Lora Balle's second period government class to see how her students were taught and her skills were put into use.

Balle's government students had recently learned how a bill becomes a law and to illustrate this, they made a board game that reflected these ideas.

The day that the delegates observed Balle's class, her students played their board games. The delegates even got in on the action and participated in some of the games as well.

After the delegates took a group picture with the entire class, they visited briefly to other classes throughout the high school before leaving to visit classes at Perrysburg High School.

“It was a real privilege to have these guests in our school,” said Jeff Hill, principal at the high school. “It is not often that we have the opportunity to show the good things that happen here to an international audience.”

Assisting in bringing the Moroccan delegates to Eastwood was Bill Hilt. His children attend Eastwood and he has also hosted foreign exchange students throughout the years.
