Grazing station buffet offered by Owens students
Area residents are invited to experience an array of foods in the form of garnishes, hors d’oeuvres and appetizers at the Owens Community College Terrace View Café as students within the culinary arts program’s Garde Manger classes present the art and craft of the cold kitchen during a grazing station feature buffet Dec. 1 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Terrace View Café, located in College Hall room 148.

Themes for the buffet-themed platters include Fall Harvest, Asian Cuisine, A Summer Day and Renaissance Tuscan.

Owens’ restaurant is coordinated by the Food, Nutrition and Hospitality Department.

The cost per lunch, which includes unlimited trips to the grazing stations, is $7.50. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 1-800-GO-OWENS, ext. 7359 or at www.owens.edu/terrace.

FFA Flower Sale
Through Nov. 30, Oregon Clay FFA Christmas are conducting a Flower Sale to support the Environmental & Agricultural Technologies Program.

The sale includes Poinsettias in various sizes, Christmas cactus, Norfolk Island Pine, Cyclamen and Ivy Wreaths with jingle bells and bows.

Orders may be picked up Dec. 8 and 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call the high school 419-693-0665 for prices and more information.


Small business tax workshop
The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Terra Community College will present a Small Business Tax Workshop Dec. 1 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Building B, room 101.

The free seminar will assist a start-up or existing small business with its tax planning. Topics to be discussed include income tax, sales tax, payroll tax, tax filings, tax changes and more.

The presenter will be John K. Krupp, C.P.A., who has more than 30 years of experience as a certified public accountant working with small businesses.

The program is free and open to the public. Grant awarded
Terra Community College has been awarded a grant, jointly funded by the Ohio Board of Regents and the Rehabilitation Services Commission.

The grant, titled “Developmental and Assistive Technologies for Everyone,” will provide funding for an assistive technologies learning lab and classroom. Total grant funding is $155,285.

The learning lab and the classroom will be used to enhance access to education for students with disabilities by providing a variety of assistive technology software and equipment, to provide instructional space for a developmental learning community comprising students with disabilities and students who place into developmental education classes, and to be open to our collaborating partners and the public when they are not being used by Terra students.

The grant was prepared by Dr. Michael Kapper, Lyn Sullivan, Kim Williams and Erin House, with consultation from Dr. Jerome Webster, Dr. Nancy Sattler and Dr. Sue Babione, as well as staff from the Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) program and the Pathways 2 Employment Program.

Terra previously received another assistive technologies grant from the Ohio Board of Regents and the Rehabilitation Service Commission, in the amount of $23,672. This grant will be used to purchase assistive technology software and equipment, as well as to provide additional counseling and diagnostic testing for students.
