At the Sept. 22 Lake Local Schools Board meeting, local BP officials presented the district with a $25,000 grant donation from the BP Foundation.
The funds will be used to help Lake cover the shortage in insurance coverage as it pertains to updating athletic facilities.
In the grant application, the district requested funds to help replace an unsafe bleacher grandstand that had to be torn down, leaving no bleachers on the east side of the stadium.
David Shaffer, Director of Athletics at Lake School wrote, “Our community needs healing and we can think of no better way than to get people back in the stadium.”
Additionally, BP employees at the BP-Husky Refinery in Oregon raised $2,100 for tornado relief with half being donated to the American Red Cross in recognition of the disaster relief for tornado victims, and half being donated to Lake Schools.
“BP is pleased to provide these donations to Lake School. Schools bring communities together and we are happy to support the rebuilding of the athletic facilities at Lake Schools,” stated Mark Dangler, BP Business Unit Leader at the BP-Husky Refinery in Oregon.
