the Digital Media Technology program.
Christine Kohler, of Gibsonburg, and Steven Brandt, of Pemberville, worked on the new distance learning brochure separately, but the final product combined their designs.
“We were looking to develop a brochure highlighting our distance learning program and thought we could open it up to students in the design class,” said Mark Grine, instructor of Digital Arts and Media Design.
The inside of the brochure incorporated Kohler’s ideas while the outside used Brandt’s. Instead of using paragraphs from the packet of information she received, Kohler decided to use student quotes to explain the benefits of distance learning. Brandt’s cover featured an abstract theme, like Building E where the digital media classes meet. Both Kohler and Brandt have taken online classes.
“It definitely helped to have first-hand experience,” Brandt said. Grine presented Kohler and Brandt with gift certificates to the CollegeStore. The brochures should be in the hands of advisors in time for fall advising.

Testing water quality Using funds from a “Living 2 Serve” grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, along with the National FFA Organization, The Oak Harbor-Penta FFA purchased water test equipment that will be used in the Portage River on April 29 at the SR 590 bridge near Brush Wellman, Inc.
The senior class students, along with Mr. Morse’s fifth-grade class from Rocky Ridge, will be working in the water to identify macro and micro invertebrate animals to help determine water quality. The students will also be testing the turbidity and nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium levels, pH and other water quality factors.
The chapter dipped three samples from the Portage River April 2, which was sent to a national testing lab in Michigan for water quality testing.
All the testing and sample information will be shared at the Portage River Congress hosted by Bowling Green University May 11 at Harrison Park in Pemberville, where several local schools will share data about Portage River water quality.
