This year marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and the Toledo Zoo will celebrate with a Party for the Planet. The zoo’s annual Earth Day celebration, which will be held Saturday, April 17, will be a full day of eco-friendly fun.
From helpful tips on living a little bit greener, to animal feedings and demonstrations throughout the day, Party for the Planet is sure to inspire visitors to be even better stewards of our environment.
Among the activities planned are shark feeds, primate enrichment demonstrations and seal training demos designed to serve as a reminder that our planet’s animals are relying on us to take care of the land, water and air that they call home.
There will also be a recycling event for those harder-to-recycle items, including electronics, small appliances, textiles and athletic shoes. Recyclables may be dropped off without entering the zoo, so admission charges would not apply. Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful, Dave’s Running Shop, Lott Industries, Allied Waste, Aluminum Cans for Burned Children and Goodwill Industries are partnering with the zoo for the recycling effort.
A complete schedule of animal feedings and demonstrations, along with items that will be accepted for recycling is available on the zoo’s web site, www.toledozoo.org/events/planet.
Party for the Planet is sponsored by Meijer and PNC.
The Toledo Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo. For more information, visit www.toledozoo.org or call 419-385-4040. |
