Older adults make up nearly 13 percent of the population, but they buy 33 percent of all prescription drugs and 40 percent of all over-the-counter medicines, according to the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities.

Studies also show that most older Americans live with at least one chronic condition, take multiple medications, consult several healthcare providers and use more than one pharmacy.

Prostate Cancer is the most common form of cancer in men. In fact, every year, approximately 30,000 men die of prostate cancer - roughly the same number as women who die from breast cancer annually - making it only second to lung cancer as a killer of men.

Caught early, prostate cancer is one of the most easily treated cancers. But, because many men experience no symptoms, it is often identified only by an abnormal result on a basic screening. During September - National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month – Men’s Health Network, along with the Senior Center for Health and Security, is urging men to talk to their doctors about prostate cancer screening.
Zoo offering senior fun in September and October

Folks 60 and older will find adventure and fun at The Toledo Zoo throughout September and October as the Zoo presents Senior Discovery Days!

Each Tuesday in September and October, Zoo visitors 60 and older receive free admission, giving them an opportunity to explore all that the zoo has to offer, plus they can take behind-the-scenes tours of the zoo’s classic WPA-era buildings, get free health screenings, hear live Big Band music and more.
