Want to slow the aging process? You’ve got to move it

You know the story. You wake up one day and, BAM! You’re over 50.

What used to be firm isn’t so firm anymore. It takes a little longer to get up in the morning. Body parts don’t move like they use to and for some strange reason, most of your clothing seems to have shrunk in the dryer.

Welcome to the world of the 50-plus. On the metabolic rollercoaster of life, you are now on the down slope. Don’t despair, though. It happens to us all at one point or another.

While it is true that some people age more gracefully than others and things like exercise and diet become more challenging as we climb the ladder of years, we don’t have to go silently into the night. We can fight the negative attributes of aging.

Hearing loss more prominent in men

When it comes to maintaining their health, men tend to wait for serious symptoms to appear before taking the necessary precautions.

Indications of serious physical conditions, however, can oftentimes take a silent form. Take hearing loss: The condition affects more than 31 million people, 65 million percent of whom are men, but the signs of the condition are typically overlooked.

With that in mind, Scott Beall, owner of Sears Hearing Aid Center of Northwood, offers this advice on what to look - or listen - for to determine if men are living with diminished hearing capacity.

Illuminating - Oregon author pens inspirational kids’ book

How would you feel if every time you made a bad decision, a change in your

appearance let everybody know about it?

That’s the case in the “Illumination Station: The Big Adventure,” a new kids’ book by Jennifer Mauter, of Oregon.

Mauter, a proud grandmother and Sunday School teacher at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in East Toledo, came up with the idea for the book as a way to keep her Sunday School students engaged.

“I am the only teacher for all the grade levels – kids ages 5 to 15,” she said. “I prayed about how I could  keep my kids interested.
