Open house set for Luther Ridge Senior Apartments
Lutheran Home Society will hold a dedication ceremony and open house for the newly completed Luther Ridge senior apartment community Nov. 19 from 2 to 3 p.m.
Luther Ridge is located at 80 South Wheeling St. Oregon. Light refreshments will be served, and staff members will be on hand to give tours of the independent living community for seniors 62 years and older.

Give the gift of time
Bay Park Community Hospital is looking to add to its dedicated team of volunteers.
Hospital volunteers continue to provide thousands of service hours within numerous areas of the hospital, such as the gift shop, materials management, human resources, Health Resource Library, medical staff office, and various other department-based positions.
• Assist the hospital’s clinical and support teams in their care for patients and families;
• Offer personal skills and talents to a state-of-the-art community hospital;
• Build new friendships and meeting new people every day;
• Exploring new career opportunities.
The volunteer program is offered to qualified individuals that have an interest in being a part of a family-centered healthcare philosophy. Both adult and teen programs are available.
All volunteers receive a free health screening, orientation and training prior to their volunteer experience. A 40-hour commitment over a six-month period is requested. For more information, contact the Volunteer Services department at 419-690-7509.
Golden Threads of Memorial Hospital will host their annual Christmas luncheon Dec. 1 at noon at Ole’ Zim’s Wagon Shed on SR 590. Their traditional chicken dinner with all the trimmings will be served. Guests who may be interested in joining Golden Threads are welcome to attend the luncheon.

Senior center plans bake sale
The Genoa Senior Center, 514 Main St., will sponsor a bake sale Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. until goods are gone.
Proceeds benefit the center programming.
Oldies But Goodies
Ottawa County Seniors are planning a follow-up to their “Oldies But Goodies” cookbooks published in 2007.
“Oldies But Goodies” was a great success and benefited each senior site according to the number of books sold by each site.
Seniors are asked to submit copies of their recipes with their name and phone number to their nearest Senior Center. Centers may be reached at: Genoa Senior Center – 419-855-4491; Elmore Senior Center – 419-862-3874; Oak Harbor Senior Center – 419-898-2800.
Recipes may be mailed to: Cookbooks: 18634 W. SR. 105, Elmore, OH 43416. Recipes can also be deposited in the recipe box at Senior Day at Camp Perry on Nov. 19.
Sale of pre-paid orders will be announced at a later date with cookbooks to be available by Spring Senior Day in May 2009.
Little Sisters calendar available
Little Sisters of the Poor has created a 2009 calendar featuring photos of residents, Sisters, staff and volunteers. The calendar represents the faith, love and hospitality of the foundress Blessed Jeanne Jurgan and the mission of caring for the elderly poor.
The cost is $20. Throughout 2009, the Little Sisters of the Poor will give away $250 each month. A winner will be drawn on the 15th of each month.
All proceeds will benefit Sacred Heart Home and the residents. For more information, call 419-698-4331.
The Wood County Committee on Aging will hold cholesterol screening clinics Nov. 14 at the Northeast Senior Center in Walbridge and Nov. 19 at the senior center in Pemberville.
Participants must be Wood County residents age 45 or older. The cost is $20 for age 60 and older and $25 for those 45-59.
The screening panel includes total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), triglycerides, total cholesterol/HDL radio and a blood glucose level.
Results will be available immediately and will be discussed with clients by a registered nurse from the Wood County Committee on Aging.
Screenings require an appointment and fasting 12 to 14 hours before the test. Call Social Services at 1-800-367-4935 or 419-353-5661 to schedule an appointment.
An hour of your time…
The Walbridge Senior Center is looking for a few kind people to deliver meals to homebound seniors in the Walbridge and Lake Township areas.
Volunteers may sign up to deliver one day a week, a month or every other week. Meals are delivered between noon and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Volunteers must interview with the volunteer coordinator or site manager, drive their own vehicles and show a valid driver’s license and insurance. Background and fingerprint checks may be required. Mileage reimbursement is available.

East Toledo seniors plan luncheon
The East Toledo Senior Activities Center’s Christmas Lunch will be held Dec. 12 at noon.
The menu will include chicken cordon bleu, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, green beans, rolls, dessert and a beverage.
The cost is $8 per person and includes lunch, a gift for everyone, entertainment and a visit from someone special. Reservations and payment must be made by Dec. 8. Call 419-691-2254 for information.
