Jon Hedricks, a 90-year-old jazz legend who calls Toledo home, will perform at the Area Office on Aging’s Spring Fling Senior Day event, which will be held May 15 at the Sylvania Tam-o-Shanter, 7060 Sylvania Ave.
The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jon Hedricks will perform around noon.
As a teenager, Hendricks sang regularly on the radio with another Toledo native, pianist Art Tatum. He is considered one of the best practitioners of scat singing, which involves vocal jazz soloing.

Over his 83-year career, his sold-out club performances have drawn fans such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Hendricks is believed to be the oldest living active jazz performer.
In addition to hearing Hendricks perform, those who come to the Spring Fling Senior Day event can get information from about 100 exhibitors offering products and services to seniors. There will also be demonstrations on topics such as woodcarving, floral arranging, painting and fishing.
Those wishing to eat at the event may purchase lunch tickets for $2.50 at the Area Office on Aging and area senior centers.
