Jack and Betty Ferree, of Walbridge, were the first winners in the Wood County Wishes Program.
Wood County Wishes, sponsored by the Wood County Committee on Aging in collaboration with Senior Independence, was designed to engage the homebound in WCCoA programming by providing leisure time services in their home.
In February, all WCCoA Home Delivered Meal clients received a ballot with their newsletter packets. Interested participants filled out the ballot and returned it to the Wood County Committee on Aging in order to be entered into the contest.
As the lucky winners for the first quarter, the Ferrees enjoyed free spring cleaning of their home and free lunch from Bob Evans, along with the social interaction from the staff.
As the event wrapped up, Northeast Area Senior Center Site Manager Sandy Hart stopped in to present potted flowers to the Ferrees.
“We are pleased with the initial response and are excited to provide these fun and interactive events to the older adults in the community,” said Shannon Smith from Senior Independence.
“It is nice to see local people win something and to have an opportunity to treat them in a special way,” Hart said.
The project will continue with the next set of ballots being distributed in May and the winners being honored June 15.
