1953 photographs evoke memories, questions

Pete Rywalski has always loved to take photos, capturing the big and not-so-big events in his life for posterity.

In fact, Pete has some 54 photo albums in his Toledo home, each brimming with memories.

Recently, Pete, who is 85, came upon a pair of photos that intrigued him.

“Fifty-eight years ago, my wife and I used to stop at this restaurant located at the corner of Fassett and Miami Street,” he said. “It was located next to the Roadway on the Fassett Street Bridge.”

The name of the restaurant escaped him. “It had a drive in window and car hops,” he said.

The photos Pete found, taken in 1953 were of two women who worked there.

“I’m hoping someone will recognize their photos – maybe a family member,” he said. “I’d be happy to pass the photos along to someone who’d like to have them.”

Anyone who recalls the name of the restaurant or recognizes the women in the photo may contact Pete through The Press at 419-836-2221 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Pete Rywalski’s photo collection included two photos from 1953 of a drive-in restaurant that was a favorite of his and his sweetheart, Ella Hallett.
