The sky was blue and sunny Saturday, Sept. 11 as Riverview HealthCare Campus held its third annual Grandparents’ Day celebration.
The morning began with a show of antique tractors followed by a breakfast of pancakes and sausage hot off of the griddle.
Young visitors to the campus enjoyed a “Tot Safari,” fashioning hats and finding bean bag animals hidden in the courtyards. Families also enjoyed a Wii bowling tournament.
The kiddie tractor races included a fierce competition narrated by the voice of the Oak Harbor Rockets, Lenny Appelhans.
Winners included 5 and younger: first place Lily Wolf; second place Eva Monak. Ages 6-8: first place Kaylie Latez; second place Harley Harris. Ages 9 and up: first place Jack Gleckler.
Animal artifact displays were provided for children and grandparents to enjoy by the Ottawa Soil & Water Conservation District and a volunteer from the Toledo Zoo. Fox skins, beaver tails and rattlesnake skins were available for the children to touch.
In addition, Riverview held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new “Helen A. Sharpe, Riverview Auxiliary Gazebo” that was purchased through donations and monies raised by auxiliary members. The Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca Solid Waste District, represented by Amy Drummer and “Myrtle the Turtle" were on hand to present a donation check for the recycled materials used in the new gazebo.
