Hearing health seminar planned
Portage Valley Hearing will present an educational seminar and luncheon about hearing loss and hearing healthcare July 28 at 11 a.m. at Riverview Banquet Center (American Legion Hall), 405 E. Front St., Pemberville.

The seminar will be presented by Rebecca Krukemyer, doctor of audiology, and audiologist Paula Phillips. RSVP by July 23. Space is limited. Call 419-287-2201 or 1-866-804-7392 for more information. Senior Day at the Fair
Local entertainers from across the county will be performing for seniors at the 2009 Senior Citizen’s Day at the Ottawa County Fair, Wednesday July 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ottawa County Senior Resources has teamed up with the Ottawa County OSU Extension Office and the Ottawa County Senior Fair Board to sponsor this senior event.

The Seniors’ Activity Committee along with the county’s six Senior Centers across the county helped to plan the day of fun.

“We wanted the county fair to be a good experience for the seniors,” said Juanita Mills Persely, chair of the Seniors’ Activity Committee. In addition, Senior Resources, which sponsors the “free” box lunch, will be taking reservations for lunch.

“We want the seniors to enjoy the fair, and not worry about if there will be a lunch available,” said Dianne Martin Mortensen, executive coordinator of Senior Resources.

The day will include free entertainment from Felix Manaia, Doc Nehls, Dave Ninke and Smile Awhile musical groups. The day will also include bingo, wagon rides, coffee and donuts and blood pressure and blood sugars checks. In addition, the Senior Fair Board is once again providing golf carts for transporting seniors to and from the parking lots. Full day schedules are available at all local senior centers and through the Internet.

Party in the Park
Elmore Golden Oldies Ottawa County Seniors will present a “Party in the Park” July 28 at 10 a.m. at Walter Ory Park, Elmore Historical Barn.

Lunch will be served at noon. Entertainment will be provided by “Just Us 2.” Reservations are required by July 23 at 10 a.m. The suggested donation for lunch is $2.50 for those 60 years of age and older and $5 for those under 60. Call 419-862-3874 for reservations or more information.

Casino bus trip planned
The East Toledo Senior Activities Center and the East Toledo Family Center are sponsoring a Motor City Casino Bus Trip Aug. 29 from 3 to 10 p.m.

The cost is $30 per person, which includes transportation on a 56-passenger motor coach and $25 casino cash. There will a beverages and raffles available on the bus.

Raffles and beverages are available on the bus. Seating is limited so reservations will be accepted on a first pay-first go basis.

Silver & Gold trip
The Silver and Gold Club sponsored by the Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home will take a day trip to Independence, Ohio, Aug. 19.

The cost is $55 per senior, which includes transportation via luxury motor coach bus, a visit to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and a stop at the Bob Evans for lunch. All admissions, taxes and gratuities are included.

The bus will begin boarding at Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home in Oregon, at 7:15 a.m. It will board for return at 4:15 p.m. and return at 7 p.m.

Seating is limited. No phone reservations will be accepted. Send name, address, phone number and emergency contact information to the funeral home at 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, 43616 by Aug. 10. Include payment in the form of a check made payable to Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home.
