Terra winter/spring ElderCollege kicks off with sampler

Terra Community College’s ElderCollege –a peer-led group serving mature learners 55 or older – will kick off the winter/spring schedule with a Sampler Jan. 22 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Building B, Room 101. Terra is located at 2830 County Highway 51, Fremont.

The short program will feature instructors sharing information about their classes. The free event offers an opportunity to experience ElderCollege for the first time or catch up with friends from previous classes.

ElderCollege classes, outings and lectures aim at stimulating an interest in lifelong learning.

Educational outings include:
• Covered Bridges of Ashtabula County – April 25 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cost: $75 with deposit due March 1.

• United States Air Force Museum – May 8 from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Cost: $110, includes motor coach and IMAX admission. Deposit due March 15.

• Tour of the Mansfield Reformatory – May 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost: $15 members/$20 non-members.


Day classes at Terra include:
• The Southern Way of Life –1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 5 through March 19. Cost: $35 members/$40 non-members

• Popcorn and a Movie –1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 6 through March 20. Cost: $40 members/$45 non-members.

• Creative Writing –1 to 3 p.m. Fridays, from Feb. 15 through March 22. Cost: $65 members/$70 non-members.

• Historic Houses of Fremont –11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 18. Cost: $5,

• Musicals on Film –10 a.m. to noon Fridays, Feb. 15 through March 22. Cost: $50 members/$55 non-members.

• Fremont’s Amazing History –1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, March 18 through April 1. Cost: $20 members/$25 non-members

• Coping with Blindness –10 to 11 a.m. April 4. Cost: $5

• American Indian Connections to the Fremont Area –10 to 11 a.m. April 16. Cost: $5

• Country Music –10 a.m. to noon Fridays, April 19 through May 3. Cost: $25 members/$30 non-members

• Painting with Watercolor –10 a.m. to noon Fridays, Feb. 15 through March 22. Cost: $50 members/$60 non-members

• Beginning Genealogy –10 a.m. to noon Mondays, March 18 through April 29. Cost: $50 members/$55 non-members

• Advanced Genealogy – 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, March 18 through April 29. Cost: $50 members/$55 non-members

• Bicentennial Celebration –1 to 2 p.m. April 17. Cost: $5

• Ohio Archaeology –3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, March 5 through 26. Cost: $20 members/$25 non-members

• A Look Back at the 2003 Bicentennial Barns –12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 25. Cost: $5

• The War of 1812 – 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 21 through March 28. Cost: $40 members/$45 non-members

• The New Paradigm of Retirement Planning – 6 to 8 p.m. April 23. Cost: $20
