The next session of ElderCollege of Terra Community College, a peer-led group serving mature learners 55 or older by broadening intellectual interests, physical activity and social interaction, will begin Sept. 18 with a Fall Sampler program.

The program, set for 10:30 a.m. to noon will feature instructors sharing information about their upcoming classes.

ElderCollege includes a variety of classes, outings and lectures aimed at stimulating an interest in lifelong learning. The cost is $25 for a single membership and $20 for a second membership for a registrant’s husband or wife.

The schedule includes:


Educational outings
• Snook’s Dream Cars and More Museum – Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. Travel in the “past lane” at Snook’s Dream Cars in Bowling Green. Cost: $6.

• Schedel Gardens – Oct. 11 at 12:30 p.m. Tour the gardens established by the Schedels in 1963 to protect and preserve their estate for the enjoyment of present and future generations. Cost: $25, includes lunch.

• Tour of the Mansfield Reformatory – Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Every year, tourists, movie buffs, thrill seekers and paranormal investigators walk through the halls of this majestic structure. Cost: $15 members/$20 non-members.

• Maxwell Art Glass – Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Jim Maxwell will demonstrate glass blowing and engraving. (Class size limited to eight) Cost: $10 members/$15 non-members.

• Winter Golf – March 3-8, 2013. Leave the winter doldrums behind and work on your swing for the upcoming golf season in Manning, S.C. Cost, which includes motor coach transportation, four days of golf, two meals each day and lodging: $690.

• Savannah, Jekyll Island and Beaufort – April 7-13, 2013. Tour Savannah, Jekyll and St. Simon’s islands, Beaufort and Paris Island. Cost, which includes seven days/six nights, motor coach transportation, 10 meals and tours: $599 double occupancy; $749 single. Deposit of $75 is due by Dec. 1 with final payment due by Jan. 4, 2013.

• The Latest from Sen. Sherrod Brown’s Office – Facilitator: Ann Longsworth Orr. 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1. Cost: $5 members.

• People for Peace – Facilitator: Sister Schroder. 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 11. Cost: $15 members/$20 non-members.

• The War of the Ohio Frontier – Facilitator: Randy Buchman. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 25. Cost, including lunch: $60 members/$65 non-members

• Creative Writing – Instructor: Lylanne Musselman. 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays from Sept. 28 through Nov. 2. Cost: $65 members/$70 non-members

• A Snapshot of the ‘60s: Part I – Instructor Norb Wethington. 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays from Sept. 26 through Oct. 31. Cost: $50 members/$55 non-members.

• Painting with Watercolor – Instructor Jim Andrews. 10 a.m. to noon Fridays from Sept. 28 through Nov. 2. Cost: $50 members/$60 non-members.

• Quilting with Mixed Techniques – Instructor Terri Branstrator. 9 a.m. to noon Mondays Oct. 1 through Nov. 5. Cost: $55 members/$60 non-members.

• Exploring the World of the Vikings – Instructor Carol Repass. 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays Oct. 2 through Nov. 6. Cost: $35 members/$40 non-members.

• My Generation’s Music the Singers – Instructor Jean Vestal. 10 a.m. to noon Fridays Sept. 28 through Nov. 2. Cost: $50 members/$55 non-members

• Popcorn and a Movie – Facilitator Bob Gamble. 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 24. Donation to ElderCollege fund encouraged.

• Beginning Genealogy – Instructor Derek Davey. 10 a.m. to noon Mondays from Oct. 1 through Nov. 5. Cost: $50 members/$55 non-members

• Ohio Archaeology – Instructor Matt Duncan. 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays from Oct. 3 through 24. Cost: $20 members/$25 non-members.

• Ohio Ghost Stories – Instructor Jeff Joerg. 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 22 and 29. Cost: $20 members/$25 non-members.

• T.O.S.S (The Ohio Spirit Searchers) – Facilitators: T.O.S.S. members. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24. Cost: $10 members/$15 non-members
