For many of its 52 years in business, the Menards retail company has been promoting Made in USA sales and identifying American-made products by placing the U.S. flag next to them in the company’s advertising for its retail outlets.
Jeff Abbott, a spokesman for the Eau Claire, Wisconsin-based chain, said customers appreciate having domestic products highlighted in the advertisements.
“We receive many positive comments from our guests who seem to appreciate that we’re trying our best to support American companies by stocking their products in our stores,” he said.
A family-owned company, Menards operates more than 260 home improvement stores with locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming, according to its website.
Company management believes sales have been helped by the decision to emphasize products that are American-made, Abbot said.
