Kateri Academy students celebrate their heritage

Each year, Kateri Catholic Academy-Walbridge Campus teacher Brenda Pahl encourages her fourth-grade students learn about their family’s heritage, particularly about the countries in their lineage. As part of “I’m Proud of My Heritage Day,” students talk with family members, visit the library and use the Internet to research countries where their ancestors lived. Each student chooses one country and prepares a five to 10-minute presentation, which often includes traditional dress, food, music, art and maps.

“We spend the day celebrating our differences as well as our similarities like only Americans can,” Pahl said.
