New Respite Center to Open Doors June 26

DEFIANCE, O. – Kaitlyn’s Cottage, the region’s first short-term and overnight respite center on a hospital campus, will open its doors Tuesday, June 26 for daytime respite and Friday, June 29 for overnight respite stays.

The standalone 4,500 square foot facility on the ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital campus, addresses the great need for short-term and overnight respite options for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities between the ages of 16 and 40, as well as providing educational and support opportunities for their parents and caregivers.

War Era story project announced

Ohio Department of Aging Director Bonnie Kantor-Burman and Ohio Department of Veterans Services Director Thomas N. Moe recently announced the launch of the departments’ joint War Era Story Project.

The effort will pick up where the Department of Aging’s award-winning 2009 Great Depression Story Project left off by collecting Ohioans’ memories from the start of World War II through the 1940s. The agencies are seeking stories by the people who lived them ¬– from veterans of World War II, to the men, women and children who held steady on the home front.
