Every day, almost 11,000 Baby Boomers turn age 50. Born between 1946 and 1964, aging Boomers are the fastest growing segment of the United States population. By 2030, the number of people ages 65 and older will nearly double to 71.5 million, or 20 percent of the population.
To meet the rehabilitation needs of the growing population of people over age 65, Heartland of Oregon, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, recently expanded with 15 additional beds and increased their rehabilitation center to 2,900 square feet to enhance their patients' ability to recuperate and return home.
Heartland, which offers pulmonary rehabilitation operated by HCR Manor Care, cares for more than 350 patients annually, and 33 percent of them return home within 30 days of admission.
According to Cheryl Lampkowski-Sowle, administrator of Heartland of Oregon, “This renovation and expansion will allow us to better meet the needs of our patients as well as our referring hospitals and physicians.”
Heartland's Medical Director Dr. Irshad Hasan stated, “The center has advanced their services to meet the needs of the medically complex patient especially in the area of pulmonary rehabilitation. Their private rooms, expanded therapy center and fresh look will allow patients to recover in a comfortable environment.”
