Plans under way for Senior Day 2010

Plans are under way for Senior Day 2010 – a celebration of all Sandusky County senior citizens, which will be held May 13 in conjunction with Older Americans Month.

The theme for this year’s Senior Day is “Learning is for Everyone (LIFE).” The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Terra Community College, 2830 Napoleon Rd., Fremont. Co-sponsor of the event is Terra’s Elder College.

The program will include:

10 a.m. – Doors open and registration, Building B lobby;

10:15 a.m. – Workshops, in classrooms;

11 – Skits and entertainment, in gym;

11:30 – Lunch, in gym;

12:15 – Hall of Fame presentation, in gym;

1 p.m. – Adjourn.

The workshops are 30 minutes long. Select from the following:
• “Dance in Music” sampler by Jean Vestal, of Elder College.

• “Painting with Water Colors” sampler by James Andrews, of Elder College.

• “Wood Carving” sampler by James Andrews, of Elder College.

• “Zumba Dancing” session conducted by Angie Schroeder, of Elder College/Kern Center.

• “Getting Around Town” – Have you ever used TRIPS? Check out the new van, ask questions and get answers to transportation needs.

• “Bingo” – Yes, tips on how to play bingo and win, offered by the professionals. Get a chance to play bingo for prizes.

• “Wii Bowing and Tennis” – What is all the fuss about? If you haven’t seen it or tried it, now’s your chance.

At 11:30 a.m. in Terra’s Student Activity Center (gym), WSOS Food Service will provide a delicious lunch, which will be served by students from the Food Service program at Vanguard Vocational Center under the direction of Chef Boyer. The menu will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and roll, ambrosia salad, pie and beverages.

Tickets will go on sale April 15 at senior centers at the suggested donation of $6 per person.

Hall of Fame nominations are being accepted for any one over age 60 who has contributed to improving the lives of others in their communities. Nomination forms are available at the senior centers or by calling 419-334-8181.
