Terra’s ElderCollege winter schedule announced

Looking for a cure for cabin fever?

Seeking ways to follow up on your New Year’s resolution to improve your mind and body in 2010?

Terra Community College in Fremont has announced the winter session schedule of its EdlerCollege program.

ElderCollege is a membership organization at Terra for adults age 50 and beyond who share a common desire to learn. The course schedule varies from term to term but usually includes such topics as computers, history, art and music. There are also several educational outing opportunities.

The winter term schedule includes:

Educational outings
• Snavely’s Sugar Shack – March 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This maple sugar business is currently worked by the seventh generation of Snavelys. Walk through the woods and observe the buckets hung on trees to collect the sap. Pancakes and sausage and maple candy and syrup will be available. Call the Sugar Shack at 419-639-2049 to register. Free.
• The Biltmore Estate and Surrounding Area – April 25-30. Travel on this six-day, five-night trip to the Biltmore Estate area of North Carolina. Register by March 1. Cost: $535 members/$560 non-members.

Lecture and lunch series
• OSS Bingo – Feb. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The lecture will give you an overview of the Ottawa/Sandusky/Seneca county solid waste district functions. Register by Feb. 12. Cost, including lunch: $20 members/$25 non-members.
• Sandusky County Parks District-County Wildlife – March 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn about the life histories of six different wildlife species living in Ohio. Cost, including lunch: $20 members/$25 non-members.
• OSS Jeopardy – March 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Discover the many aspects of the OSS district. Register by March 12. Cost, including lunch: $20 members/$25 non-members.
• ADAI Service Dogs – April 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ADAI helps children and adults with disabilities achieve greater independence by training and placing service and therapy dogs to assist with the individual’s daily needs. Register by April 1. Cost, including lunch: $20 members/$25 non-members.

Day classes
• Retirement Planning Today – Facilitator: Gary Wise, Seymour and Associates. Session I is 6:30 to 9 p.m. March 3, 10 and 17. Session II is 8:30 a.m. to noon March 6 and 13. Register by Feb. 24. Cost: $50 members, $55 non-members.
• Quilting – Facilitator: Terri Branstrator. 9 a.m. to noon, Mondays from March 1 through May 3. Register by Feb. 15. Cost: $80 members, $85 non-members.
• Painting with Watercolor – Instructor: Jim Andrews. Session I is 9 a.m. to noon, Fridays from Jan. 29 through March 5. Session II is 9 a.m. to noon, Fridays from March 19 through May 7. Cost per session: $50 members, $55 non-members.
• Creative Writing – Facilitator: Kate Founders. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Fridays from Jan. 29 from March 5 (session I) and March 19 through May 7 (session II). Cost per session: $50 members, $55 non-members.
• Facebook Basics– Instructor: Tony Hoover. 2:30 to 4 p.m. April 8 and 15. Cost: $25 members, $30 non-members.
• Dance in Music – Facilitator: Jean Vestal. 10 a.m. to noon, Fridays from Feb. 19 to March 26. Register by Jan. 22. Cost: $50 members, $55 non-members.
• It’s Greek to Me – Instructor: Carol Repass. 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesdays from Jan. 26 to March 2. Register by Jan. 22. Cost: $30 members/$35 non-members.
• Bridge 101 – Facilitator: Ronald Woofter. 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesdays from March 16 through May 11. Register by Feb. 26. Cost: $50 members, $55 non-members.
• Snapshot of the Sixties – Instructor: Norb Wethington. Noon to 2 p.m., Wednesdays from Jan. 27 through March 3 (session I) and March 17 through April 21 (session II). Cost each session: $30 members, $35 non-members.
• Popcorn and a Movie – Meryl Streep, Cinematic Chameleon – Facilitator: Robert Gamble. 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Feb. 3 through March 10. Register by Feb. 1. Cost: $40 members, $45 non-members.
• Wood Carving – Instructor: Jim Andrews. 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays from Jan. 29 through March 5 (session I) and March 19 through May 7 (session II). Cost per session: $50 members, $55 non-members.

Evening classes
• Quilts-But Not Like Grandma Made. April 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Facilitator: Marilyn Welling. Cost: $15 members, $20 non-members.
• Hats, Hats, Hats – Facilitator: Marilyn Welling. May 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Cost: $15 members, $20 non-members.
