As part of its mission, the East Toledo Senior Activities Center strives to offer quality programs and services to enhance the lives of seniors and to help them maintain independent lifestyles.
As a service to nearby seniors, the center offers a chore and housekeeping program, available to East Toledo and Oregon residents who are at least 60 years of age.
Chore services include lawn care, weeding, hedge-trimming and planting, minor home repairs, painting, window cleaning, leaf raking, and snow removal, including for “snow birds” who head south for the winters.
Housekeeping services available include dusting, vacuuming, dishes, laundry, bathrooms, etc.
“We had 111 clients in 2010 for the Chore Program and expect to have that many for 2011,” said Mary Wolff, director of the East Toledo Senior Activities Center.
The Chore Program employs one staff member year-round and three seasonal workers April through November. Several volunteers also help keep the program going, Wolff said.
Two housekeepers serve an average client list of 20 seniors year-round. “The housekeepers work as a team and can clean weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or just on call,” Wolff said.
The cost is $10 per hour for members and $16 per hour for non-members for both the Chore and Housekeeping programs. The program is funded in part through grants from the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio.
