Spending Less Living Better

OSU Extension’s Family Nutrition Program continues Spending Less Living Better programming. The Department of Jobs and Family Services and Salvation Army have partnered with OSU Extension to promote the Spending Less Living Better Program for limited income families in Ottawa County. The program is offered twice a month and promotes meal planning for low cost, healthy eating and developing a spending plan. Participants are encouraged to track the amount of money spent on convenience food and extras like pop, chips, and candy purchases for the month. Many times the consumer does not realize the amount spent on these less healthy extras. Sample menus, for the week, along with recipes and shopper’s guide are some of the materials participants receive.

The Family Nutrition Program is made possible through a grant from the USDA Regional Food Stamp office. The goal is to help individuals with limited resources gain skills in nutrition, food safety, and food budgeting. We continue to look for community partners to help us reach new audiences.
