May is National Tennis Month and to encourage people of all ages to pick up a racquet, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) is serving up a community initiative across America. From coast to coast, community tennis organizations will host “Tennis Block Parties” to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take to the court.
In Sandusky, the Tennis Block Party is being hosted by Al’s Clinics/Perkins High at Perkins Community Tennis on May 18 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The event is free, and open to the public. For more information, visit www.TennisMonth.com.
Tennis Block Parties offers attendees a day of free tennis, interactive games and attractions, and the opportunity to learn and enjoy the benefits of the game – from fun and competition, to lifestyle and fitness.

In addition, the USTA owns the 94 Pro Circuit events throughout the U.S., and selects the teams for the Davis Cup, Fed Cup, Olympic and Paralympic Games. A not-for-profit organization with more than 720,000 members, it invests 100% of its proceeds in growing the game. For more information on the USTA, log on to usta.com.
Elizabeth A. Pierce, director of golf at Hidden Hills Golf Course, said her course saw two holes-in-one on two consecutive days. Mark Gill connected on the 171-yard par 3 No. 16 with an 8-iron, and the following day Oregon resident Charlie Clark made due with an ace on the 145-yard No. 14 with a 5-wood.
Pierce added that Hidden Hills is offering two new special programs available for senior golfers 55 and older this year.
“The explosion of senior golfers has mandated that new programs be explored to accommodate the senior golfer. Most golfers are riding these days and the trend will continue to grow,” a statement from Pierce said. She added that Hidden Hills has also had a general golf etiquette program for junior golfers for 28 years. Call 419-849-3693.
