Senior Day Spring Fling set for May 20 at Tam-O-Shanter

The Area Office on Aging and The Toledo Blade will present the 31st Annual Senior Day Spring Fling for older adults May 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sports and Exhibition Center at Tam-O-Shanter in Sylvania.

This year’s event will give the older adults the opportunity to play the Nintendo Wii game system, enjoy various entertainers, attend demonstrations on researching a family tree, participate in building projects by the Home Depot, watch cooking demonstrations by Liz Sofo and visit over 130 vendors.

Tickets for boxed lunches are available at Toledo area senior centers, nutrition sites and the Area Office on Aging. The cost is $2.50 older adults and $5.50 for non seniors.

Admission and parking are free.

“A Legacy of Caring” dinner & auction

The Little Sisters of the Poor will host their annual dinner and auction, “A Legacy of Caring” May 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Pinnacle Banquet Hall in Maumee.

The proceeds from the event will help to provide services and programs for the residents of Sacred Heart Home for the Elderly in Oregon.

The “Legacy of Caring” Award will be presented to Mr. Stan Joehlin in grateful recognition of years of compassionate, dedicated and professional service to the elderly residents in the Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Pemberville Senior Center opens

The Wood County Committee on Aging has opened a new senior center in Pemberville, located at 220 Cedar St., in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Nashville Tour

The East Toledo Senior Activities Center, with the help of Diamond Tours, will host a trip to Nashville Oct. 6-10.

The cost of $575 includes motor coach transportation, four nights of lodging, eight meals, two shows (The Grand Ole Opry and a Nashville Nightlife Dinner Theater), a guided tour of Nashville, admission to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch and Belle Meade Plantation, a ride on the Delta Flatboats inside the Opryland Hotel and more.

A deposit of $75 per person is due no later than June 2. The trip is open to all adults. For more information, call 419-691-2254.

Silver & Gold

The Silver and Gold Club, sponsored by Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home in Oregon, will take a trip to Crossroads Village, Flint, Mich. June 18.

The bus will board at 7:15 a.m. from the funeral home, 3500 Navarre Ave. It will return at 7 p.m. The cost of $55 include transportation by luxury motorcoach, and all admissions, taxes and gratuities. Travelers will explore the village on their own, enjoy an eight-mile ride around the village, then enjoy a paddle wheel riverboat ride on the Genesee Belle Paddle Wheel Riverboat, followed by dinner at Applebee’s in Dundee, Mich.
