The recent fourth annual poetry contest held by the Wood County Committee on Aging drew in 27 entries from throughout the County. The contest challenged writers to capture their personal feelings about life, hope, dreams and love.
A celebration for the winner and honorable mentions was held Feb. 28 at the Wood County Senior Center. First-place was awarded to Ruth E. Haas from Genoa, who submitted, “ Through My Window. ” Second place went to “ Essence of Karin ” by Mariester Pavlica, of Rossford and third place went to “ My Mother’s Hands, ” submitted by Ruth V. The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of its Adult Day Center, located at 131 N. Wheeling St. Suite 2 in Toledo.
“In our first year, we have been privileged to serve with this new neighborhood resource dozens of families in Lucas County and surrounding communities who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia,” said Amy Simkus, director of respite services with the Alzheimer’s Association’s Northwest Ohio Chapter.
