Scholarships
Defiance College: Trevor Ault of Oregon has been awarded the Winslow Scholarship Fund of First St. John Lutheran Church and will be attending Defiance College with Business Administration as his major and future plans to attend law school.
University of Toledo: Angelo Vasquez received the First Generation Award of $1,000 and Tower Blue Scholarship for $1,000.
Scholar
Ryanico Reyna, of Toledo, has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). He will be honored during an induction convocation this fall on the campus of The University of Toledo.
Buckeye Girls State:
Sarah Coughtree and Kathryn Quilter, of Oregon, have been delegated as State Representative and City Councilman, respectively, by the 2008 American Legion Auxiliary Buckeye Girls State program.
The program is designed to educate the citizens of tomorrow in city, county and state government functions and operations. They learn the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
St John’s grad earns honors
St. John’s Jesuit Academy graduate James O’Shea, of Oregon, earned the St. Francis Xavier Student Athlete Award. O’Shea played football and basketball and participated in track.
Owens inducts Phi Theta Kappa honorees
Owens Community College students recently were honored for their excellence in higher education, earning
membership into the Alpha Omega Pi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize academic excellence among two-year college students, provide opportunities for leadership training and an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and ideals. In addition, the society continues to promote among its members the four standard hallmarks - scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship.

Band students earn scholarships
The Clay Band Spring Concert 2008 was held May 8 in the high school auditorium. A special piece, “The Lord of the Dance,” was played in dedication to Kathy Beckman, a former Clay Band parent and Oregon City School employee. Immediately following the concert, a tree was planted on the campus in Kathy’s memory.
