A winning spirit
To the editor: A good coach is a big influence in your life. I had some of the best – Myron Brick Long, Fredie Midaugh and Doyce Fielier.

Under Brick Long at Webster, we won the Wood County baseball championship when I was a freshman.

Under Coach Feliere, we were basketball runner-up, being beaten one point in the last 10 seconds at BGU. I set a new record of a 16-point average. Had we had the three-point shot, it would have been much better.

Under Coach Midaugh, we won the Lake Shore League championship in baseball for the Walbridge Merchants. We backed our team.

They put a winning spirit in you that you never lose.

A misnomer

To the editor: According to the TV news clips, many dogs are being turned loose due to the bad economy. I have never heard of a dog leaving his owner if he has troubles.

To call a dog almost “human” is a misnomer to that faithful animal.

Program a success
To the editor: Humane Ohio is continuing our efforts to spay/neuter 1,400 cats in Toledo’s 43605 ZIP code and we wanted to let you know that the five free transports that we offered to residents in that ZIP code in December were a success.
