Grateful
To the editor: James and Mary Ellen Kohler and our family want to thank the following people and organizations for their kindness and assistance in the aftermath of our recent burglary and assault: The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department and their detectives, the Gibsonburg Police Department, the 911 operators, the EMS personnel, the E.R. staff at Memorial Hospital, St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center Life Flight team and their E.R. and hospital staff and the North Central EMS.

In addition to these professionals are an incredible number of people who provided prayers, food, flowers, cards, clean-up, security lighting, carpentry services, phone calls, visits, donations to the reward fund and many other acts of kindness.

Is it fair?
To the editor: As a concerned citizen of Ottawa County, it bothers me what is happening at our county fair. Kids are being charged an entry fee and a bedding fee to exhibit their animals at the fair. Who would come to Ottawa County Expo if the 4-H kids did not exhibit animals at the fair? How many people would camp at the rate of $225 a week if it weren’t for the Junior 4-H program?

The entry fee was not imposed until after the young 4-H exhibitors signed up and committed to their projects. You do not change the rules in the middle of the game. Few, if any of the Senior Fair Board members or commissioners are reflecting on what the 4-H pledge and program is all about.

What about the fish?
To the editor: We know that the Bay Shore Plant kills hundreds of thousands of fish because they can’t afford to build a cooling tower.

I have not heard of one study on the impact the proposed coke plant would have on the Maumee River ecosystem.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know the coke plant would use an enormous amount of water from the Maumee River. What about our fish?

It stinks
To the editor: Let me see if I have this right. Congress taxes business and the citizenry at ever-increasing rates. Congress takes money off the top of those taxes to pay for their bloated administrative costs.
