Bob Fondessy: Remembering a founding father

Bob Fondessy died content that Oregon, the city he helped establish, is weathering this recession better than the city which tried to devour it 52 years ago.
While Oregon has a diverse economy and a tax windfall coming from the upcoming $2.5 billion BP-Husky Refining project, Toledo struggles with a $12 to $14 million deficit.
I interviewed Fondessy in 2007 when Oregon celebrated its 50th anniversary. He was proud of the role he played in fighting off the annexation efforts of “the big bad wolf.”

East Toledoan just one of many to have bank account raided

Angela still isn’t sure how the thief got her debit card information and stole $2,340.65 out of her bank account.

While this East Toledoan was frustrated that the theft came days before her mortgage and other bills were due, that was nothing like the frustration she felt because she works at a bank and is enrolled in a fraud protection program.

“What are ya doing?” the message on Facebook read.

“I’m cleaning the den,” she typed as I looked over her shoulder.

“No you’re not,” I said. “You’re writing about cleaning the den, but you’re not actually cleaning the den.”
