Democracy in action

To the editor: Election Day Nov. 4 was truly a bright, sunny, warm day, unlike so many in the past.

The Woodmore School District did not have school on Election Day and many young children came with their parent/s to see what took place. Since I did not work at the polls, I felt free to talk to some of the parents with young children as they came out of the building where they voted. I learned that the children have been learning about the election process at school, parents have been talking about the different candidates with their children, and the children were eager to actually see our democracy at work.

Besides pictures in books and newspapers, the children saw first-hand their mom/dad sign in, a picture ID had to be shown, they saw a real ballot, watched what their parent/s had to do from marking their ballot, scanning their ballot, depositing their ballot stubs to walking out the door to their vehicle knowing they had a choice in the future of their country.

Thank you teachers and parents for your time devoted to teaching the young people what it is to be an American.

God Bless America.
