Heartsick
To the editor: An open letter to area parents of grade-schoolers from a heartsick great-grandmother:

At the end of the school year in the spring of 2011, my 6-year-old great-grandson was allegedly sexually molested in an area school by an adult male.

This did not come to light until school began this fall, and the parents realized that their son was terrified of going back to school. He, of course, was forced to attend. The parents were called to the school when their son was despondent in the cafeteria, head on the table, refusing to eat.

He finally told his dad his secret, saying the man had been watching him in the cafeteria and he was scared. A 6-year-old could not have made up the story he told his dad. He had kept quiet all this time because the man had threatened him.

My grandson went to the police to file a report. The man was called in for a lie detector test, which he managed to pass.

As far as the school is concerned, case closed. The man is back on the job.

I do not believe my great-grandson was the first victim of this man, though I would hope he may be the last. If any parents have any suspicions that their child may have a victim too, please come forward.

Some children, as well as my 3 great-grandsons who attend an area school are safer today. The man who molested my great-grandson died of a heart-attack this week.
