A time out from nonsense

To the editor: The difference between the Republicans and the Democrats is, one wears a sweatshirt that has a donkey on it. The other wears an elephant. If you look in the elephant and the donkey stalls, there are a lot of droppings and both stalls smell.

It’s like a football game. Each one wants to win and most of their time is spent trying to figure out ways to accomplish this. While this is going on, they are too occupied to think of anyone else.

What about working to make our great country a better place to live and give us a chance to succeed?

Let’s call a time out and get back to our real problems. We’ve got a TV full of ball games.

Where’s Latta’s plan?

To the editor: I would like to respond to the comment by Congressman Bob Latta pertaining to President Obama’s State of the Union address.

I wasn’t surprised by Latta’s comment. He is forever degrading our President. Yet, during the Bush administration, noting was ever done and not once did he ever criticize Bush.

This President inherited a debt that occurred in the Bush era and Mr. Latta didn’t have a plan then and he doesn’t now.

It’s about time people in Wood County stop voting on just the Latta name, but vote for the person who can make a difference, not one with nothing but negativity.

I have listened many times to his radio town meetings and the whole time he is degrading the President and Democrats.

Mr. Latta, what plans do you have in place for health care, education, the debt, etc? Give the tax breaks for the very rich and forget the middle class people who have continued to pay for the rich.

We need to get someone in this area that will work for the citizens and not big corporations and stop the big-time lobbyists for insurance and drug companies running our health systems.

Again, I never hear of plans from you, Mr. Latta, but you are so quick to criticize one who does.

It’s time elected officials start paying the high prices that we have to pay for our health care and our meds. I don’t see that happening.

Stop with lip service and start working together. This country was built by the working class people who have worked so hard and played by the rules. If we continue to fight one another, I can see that
China will be running the U.S. next.

Reaping what we sow

To the editor: I listened to a minister speak the other day about the plight of our country. He stated that we reap what we sow. He felt that nothing we do will turn our economy around until we make abortion illegal. When you are a nation founded upon Judeo-Christian principals you are held to a higher standard.

There is probably not a person alive that does not consider the recent findings of newborn babies being killed that does not find this atrocious. I believe that the taking of life within the womb is just as atrocious. The results are the same.

People will continue to have abortions even if it is made illegal. however our country does not have to condone this by keeping it legal. People violate our laws every day and suffer the consequences when they are caught. If this doctor is guilty of killing newborn babies, he will suffer the consequences too.

But I believe, as the minister believes, that we are reaping what we sow as a nation. We need to help those who find their pregnancies troubling. We need to protect the unborn by giving them the right to life.

Will we step up to the plate and do what is right and just? Or will continue to turn a blind eye? The "choice" is ours. Our future may depend on it.
