Successful Kettle campaign
To the editor: The Elmore Unit of the Salvation Army wishes to thank the following organizations for faithfully standing by our Kettles during the cold month of December.

A grand total of $6,779.62 was collected from Woodville and Elmore. Woodville collections totaled $1,161.40 and Elmore collected $5,618.22. This is an increase of $1,609.33, compared to last year’s kettle drive.

Thank you to the Elmore Kiwanis, the Key Club of Woodmore High School and the United Methodist Church of Woodville. In addition to the above mentioned groups, several individuals also manned the kettles.

The moneys collected in Woodville and Elmore are spent in those communities and also help any school children in need. Last year, we assisted people with heating, food, rent, prescriptions, lodging and other emergency needs. Assistance was given to transients in need of fuel, lodging, etc. This past year, we disbursed $1,275.67 to our local communities.

A special thanks to all who bought gifts for the Angel Trees in Woodville and Elmore and to Sharon Arndt and her elves, who wrapped and distributed these gifts. Gifts were given to 20 families and 63 children. A final big thanks to all of you who donated to the Kettles.

Why her mailbox?
To the editor: To the person or persons that smashed my mailbox Jan. 11, I just wanted you to know my father passed away a few hours before you did your deed. To make it worse, my dad made that mailbox.

I know God loves everyone, but I’m having a hard time agreeing.

Incredible
To the editor: First, I would like to say thank you to everyone who did something nice for someone else, even if they didn’t know the other person.

Also, I want to share something I thought about while standing in my back yard gazing at the stars on Christmas Eve. Isn’t it incredible that of all of the so-called great people of all times in history such as Caesar, Napoleon, Thomas Edison, Shakespeare and so on, only one person has left such an impression that His name is spoken every week of very year for 2,000 years? The child so poor, he was born in a stable in a faraway land. We all know His name. May be His name should be in the Guinness World Book of all-time records.
