Support appreciated
To the editor: The staff of Home Instead Senior Care would like to thank the residents of Ottawa County for their support of the Be a Santa to a Senior Program.

Thanks to your kindness, gifts were delivered to 162 seniors this holiday season. We truly appreciate the Rite Aid stores in Port Clinton, Oak Harbor and Genoa, as well as, the Port Clinton Wal-Mart for allowing us to set up the trees and collecting the purchased gifts. We had great fun with community members and Home Instead Senior Care CAREGivers wrapping the gifts.

A final thank you to Ottawa County Senior Resources Home Delivered Meals drivers and Home Instead CAREGivers for delivering the packages to the seniors’ homes. Thank you to all those who assisted in bringing the Christmas spirit to Ottawa County seniors.

Using energy wisely

To the editor: Thank you for your informative article on the “Electric rates subject to hearing” in the Jan. 3 issue of The Press. I would like to share with you that I am one of those customers.

My home was built in 1985 and we worked with Toledo Edison to put in a Demand Center, and we built an all-electric home that qualified for this reduction in rates as long as you owned the home. This Demand Center was ahead of its time, in that it controlled the demand of the house by shutting certain things down. For example, my dryer would shut off when using the oven –inconvenient, yes, but you learn. It teaches you to use your energy more wisely and to use it at times that are not peak demand.

The website http://allelectrichomes.info/default.aspx offers information about a group that is working to help citizens demand that the electric companies keep their promise.

Once again, thank you for keeping this before the public.
