Joy to the world To the editor: They’ve done it again. Earlier this week, more than 100 volunteers sorted and bagged toys and foodstuffs, all generously donated by Oregon-area individuals and businesses.
All day Wednesday, these gifts were distributed at three different centers in Oregon to our neighbors who have been struggling in these difficult economic times. Every year, the Oregon Health and Welfare Committee organizes this event.
To be a part of it is so very heartwarming. Many families and individuals were recipients this year, and their smiles and hugs told the story of their thanks. Jerusalem Township was involved for the first time this year.
Hats off to Bob Marquette, who capably leads the project year after year; to the members of the committee who work hard all year organizing and assembling; and to Mary Mortemore, who cheerfully played five hours of Christmas piano music at one of the distribution centers.
Indeed, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Catherine Hoogerhyde Oregon
